The Weight of the Gaze II (2025)
In this piece, Plaza delves deeper into the conflict between body, mind, and gaze.
A female figure stands at the center of the canvas, suspended on an ambiguous pedestal that seems to dissolve at its base. Her face, barely suggested, fragments between planes of control and dissolution —a mask that conceals and reveals simultaneously.
The contrast between the structural firmness of the body and the gestural vibration of the brushstroke reflects the tension between the longing for stability and the inevitable inner fracture.
A red sphere —a recurring symbol in the artist’s work— acts as a nucleus of energy and imbalance: a force that attracts, threatens, and sustains at once.
The Weight of the Gaze II exposes the fragility of contemporary self-perception and consolidates the conceptual axis of the triptych: the gaze as mirror, burden, and possibility of redemption.
