Manifesto of the Gesture (2025)
Manifesto of the Gesture inaugurates the Topographies series and establishes its core principle: gesture as an act of resistance against structure.
In this work, Alex R. Plaza depicts a series of hands emerging or gripping within a space ruled by geometric planes and abstract volumes.
These hands do not aim to describe a figure but to affirm movement itself —the attempt, the vital impulse that pierces through matter.
The tension between control and spontaneity shapes the entire composition: the rigidity of the environment contrasts with the vibration of the brushstroke, generating a contained energy that seems ready to burst.
Here, painting becomes a physical language —a declaration of the power of gesture as an affirmation of the human within a constructed world.
